Hospitals To Tax or Not To Tax April 28, 2004 Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. Third Floor, Levis Faculty Center

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
This is a Special Forum of
The Center for Advanced Study |
In February, The Illinois Department of Revenue revoked Provena Covenant Medical Center's property tax-exempt status. This decision will have major ramifications at the local, state, and national levels for all hospitals as well as other not-for-profit entities.
CAS Director Bill Greenough invites you to participate in an informal public forum on this timely topic. After brief presentations by those with first-hand knowledge of the Provena case in particular and tax-exempt institutions in general, you are encouraged to direct questions to the panelists.
Participants include: Prof. John Colombo (Law), Claudia Lennhoff (Executive Director, Champaign County Healthcare Consumers), Dr. James Leonard (President and CEO, Carle Foundation), Dan Stebbins (Champaign County Board of Review), James Unland (President, The Health Capital Group and Editor, Journal of Health Care Finance), and Mark Wiener (President and CEO, Provena Covenant Medical Center). Moderated by CAS Resident Associates Brad Schwartz (Medical College) and Noreen Sugrue (Nursing Institute).
