Pandharipande physics Much of Professor Pandharipande's research is aimed toward developing a unified theory of all nuclear systems, ranging from the lightest nuclei to the heaviest neutron stars. With several graduate students and collaborators he helped develop realistic models of nuclear forces and methods to solve the quantum, nuclear many-body problem. Some of these methods have found applications in other branches of physics and chemistry. In 1999 he received the Bonner Prize of the American Physical Society, and he has served as chair of the Advisory Committee of the National Institute of Nuclear Theory. He is a member of the joint National Science Foundation and Department of Energy Nuclear Science Advisory Committee and of the board of directors of the European Center of Theoretical Nuclear Physics. Professor Pandharipande received his doctorate from Bombay University in 1969 and was appointed to the UIUC Department of Physics in 1973. vrp@uiuc.edu |
