cas: initiative 2002-2003


The Ethnography of the University of lllinois

This initiative aims to bring together a group of interested persons from a range of academic and service units to discuss and examine key issues in the research on universities generally and the University of Illinois in particular and central problems and tactics, from the highly theoretical to the logistical, in pedagogy which includes student research on the University of Illinois. This initiative includes a public lecture series, The Future of the University: Knowledge, Networks, Pedagogy, and a semester-long weekly seminar.

Ethnography of the University of Illinois continues as a separate program directed by Nancy Abelmann (anthropology, east asian languages and cultures) and Peter Mortensen (English).
