Noreen M. Sugrue is Senior Research Associate at the University of Illinois, Nursing Institute, and a Faculty Affiliate at the Institute of Government and Public Affairs. In addition, through June 2004, she is a Resident Associate at The Center for Advanced Study. Her broad research focus is health and social welfare policy.

The Future of the Health Care Labor Force in a Graying Society
, chaired by Former Labor Secretary Lynn Martin. In May 2001, the panelís report,
Who Will Care for Each of Us? America’s Coming Health Care Labor Crisis,
was released.
Noreen Sugrue is currently Principal Investigator on two externally funded projects related to health care labor issues, in particular, as health care labor relates to health outcomes and the overall economic impact for society of an inadequately prepared labor force. In addition, she is writing a book on unlicensed nursing care providers who care for the elderly. The book explores the work and personal lives of the women who provide this necessary labor. Finally, Noreen Sugrue is co-chairing a campus wide initiative at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on linking health and social welfare policies both nationally and internationally. She will be senior co-editor on the volume from that initiative.
Noreen Sugrue currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Provena Covenant Medical Center Foundation and on the Advisory Board of America’s Health Together. In the past, she has served on a number of boards and government advisory panels.
Noreen Sugrue did undergraduate work in political science and graduate work in public policy and public health. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory University, 1991-1992. Her research work is funded by federal, state, and foundation grants. She publishes in both academic and non-academic venues.
