cas : Bardeen Graduate Scholars CAS Bardeen Graduate scholars
Honoring the lifetime achievements of Center Professor John Bardeen, the CAS John Bardeen Scholars Program grants stipends to graduate students pursuing a research topic related to a current Center initiative. The year-long initiative planned for 2003-04 is titled "Who Gets What? The Interactions of Health Policy and Social Welfare Policy" and will explore the interconnectedness of health and social welfare policies. The goal is to promote and sustain a meaningful discussion about policies and practices in these intersecting arenas. Graduate Bardeen Scholars receive $6,000, plus tuition and fee waivers if necessary. They must be registered full time and remain in good standing throughout the academic year. Each Scholar is expected to enroll in CAS 487 (Who Gets What? The Interactions of Health Policy and Social Welfare Policy). Typically, Bardeen Scholars work closely with their departmental advisor(s) as well as mentors from the CAS community. Successful candidates are asked to prepare an early description of their projects for publicity purposes, and short reports on their achievements at the end of their appointments. Selection Criteria You should normally be in at least your second year of graduate study and show unusual promise and achievement. Your proposed research project should involve at least two disciplines and relate to some aspect of the current initiative. Identifying a faculty advisor for your project will strengthen your proposal. |
